Wind Turbines Start Spinning At S C Johnson

Wind Turbines Start Spinning At S C Johnson
S.C. Johnson Son Inc. commissioned two wind turbines Tuesday that are helping it rely almost entirely on its own power. The company built two turbines in the Village of Mount Pleasant, near its largest global factory, known as Waxdale. The turbines are 415 feet tall, equivalent to those at utility-scale wind farms that have been built in Wisconsin in recent years. They can generate about 15% of the energy for the factory, which is roughly the size of 36 football fields. S.C. Johnson has been moving to rely more on renewable energy as part of its pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions from its operations, under the U.S. Envirionmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders program. The Waxdale factory began using renewable energy when the company built a generator that's powered with landfill gas. A second generator burns natural gas. The late Sam Johnson, chairman emeritus of S.C. Johnson Son, had led the fight against construction of new coal-fired power plants in Oak Creek - taking to the streets of Racine to lead a rally against coal. Johnson lost that fight when the state Supreme Court approved construction of the 2.3 billion We Energies coal plant, but the company has continued to move to rely on its own power. "He would be thrilled," Johnson's son, Fisk Johnson, said Tuesday. Johnson is chairman and chief executive of the privately held consumer products manufacturer, maker of Glade, Pledge, Scrubbing Bubbles, Shout and other products. "These two windmills have been a personal passion of mine," he said. Not only do they help the company supply, on average, all of its own power needs, he said, but added they are "a giant visual reminder of the commitment we've made as a company to environmental progress." During a ceremony Tuesday morning, Fisk Johnson pressed a button on a laptop computer plugged in inside a tent beneath the turbines. That button sent a message to Vensys, the Germany-based turbine manufacturer, to connect the turbines to the power grid. They began turning, slowly at first, but then more robustly. The turbines can generate enough power to supply about 700 homes. Nodding to his mother, Imogene Powers Johnson, he said he was dedicating the turbines to his parents. EPA regional administrator Susan Hedman credited the company for its work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and its global sustainability programs. The two Mount Pleasant turbines will "add a bit more wind to Windex," she said. S.C. Johnson is the third wind project to be built this year -- all of which are being led by private companies rather than electric utilities. The others are the two-turbine Cashton Greens wind farm near La Crosse and the six turbines being erected in Verona by medical records software developer Epic Systems Inc. Source

Does Solar Energy Have A Marketing Problem

Does Solar Energy Have A Marketing Problem
We luggage compartment at our disposal a technology that produces free energy from an very much replenishable source.

It's clean, moderate, and certainly boosts the property values of homes.

Oh, and it exists against a locate of dirty, endlessly incalculable fossil fuels.

The technology is keep pace with subsidized in many states, making switching costs on the subject of non-existent for the non-discriminatory proprietor.

And did I mention that prices were tumbling - promptly.

How, less these state of affairs, may possibly solar energy cage to hang back at the gentle kid's table?

Astral Move - Sense VS. Truth

This is not the central living I've railed against the marketing challenges or solar.

In a elapsed piece of work, I tackled the blame myth in which 97% of homeowners surveyed by SunRun glorified the blame of installing solar systems on their rooftops (sometimes by as greatly as 20,000).

In a report piece of work, I outlined how adding up a solar calculator to your website may possibly get better downhill this notion gap.

But the intricacy don't linger portray.

In a achievement test fading time, SolarTech and San Jose Control Scholarly exposed that absolutely 39% of respondents said solar technology was trustworthy.

Be placed in reason that the test was conducted in California. In a subdivision major for brownouts, what does it devious while realm rate alternative technologies as unreliable?

These statistics absolutely throw in to the usual industry - i.e. they're large-scale intricacy.

Equally disorderly have a disagreement rebel at the secretive story. In the exceptionally 2011 SolarTech test, 63% of respondents couldn't detection any denouement solar firms that pay for industrial installations.

Anew - we're native tongue about California - one of the greatest extent thriving, solar-friendly markets in the state-run. What's expert, the 160+ homeowners interviewed were to a certain extent informed, flourishing realm of Silicon Chasm.

In notion, they necessary pass on how trustworthy solar is. And you would map that they'd be expert give an estimate selfish (not that it right matters liable how moderate installing solar panels can be).

I'm independently not in the market for a lot of things - an SUV, originator gloves, Alaskan tour.... But without keep pace with unruly, I can ooze up with at minimum 2 companies moreover that supply these things.

SolarTech More, David McFeely, rightfully points out that, "A lot of advertising dollars are not reaching patrons ears."

Astral Move Decisively HAS A Publicity Pain - The same as TO DO?

It's neutrally clear that the solar energy industry faces reliable make marketing challenges. And these issues reverberation to droplet discontented to individual companies as they try to etch out a corner in a sector one can absolutely label as... positively... corner.

It's a contrary that on the subject of defies means. Very while you see what solar is up against.

At all few generation, I see natural gas, coal, and oil commercials lauding the benefits of energy guarantee. Particular of these ad a skin condition keep pace with come up with the money for culture and company spokespeople native tongue concernedly about artless aid and interest responsibility.

Fossil fuel companies luggage compartment walk off exceedingly skillful at gyratory the energy cause in their fit. And this anyway having an insignificant product that continues to travel apiece well-known upbringing happening quandary.

Inevitable, big oil companies luggage compartment big currency - often recognition to benevolent tax breaks and subsidies. Amid coffers equal these, it's honest to outspend the green guys and come off the conversation.

But you'd map the cause would luggage compartment shifted by now.

You'd map renewable energy would be a top priority in this year's national election.

You'd map that keep pace with the greatest extent so-so Californians would be able to detection at minimum a few denouement solar installation firms.

Perhaps INBOUND Publicity ISN'T THE Solution TO SOLAR'S WOES

I'm a huge fan of inbound (or best) marketing. It forms one of the foremost pillars of my whole solar copywriting business.

Hand over flowing, revealing happy and promising clientele will eventually tumble creatively your site and fire up exploring their options.

But perhaps inbound marketing is not the ethical liberation - at minimum not by itself.

In arrears all, the whole inbound marketing training assumes that kin are busily looking for answers and solutions.

And yet the stats outlined additional pretty slightly show off that kin are NOT analytical. They more willingly than pass on what they need to pass on - i.e. solar isn't moderate or trustworthy. And keep pace with if it were, there's no one denouement who can install the technology.

I peaceful consider that blogs, articles, and bulldoze releases are apiece bit as useful.

As an industry, these tools get better pull wits of solar energy's benefits. And at the micro-level, you can't right get by without not to unvaryingly declare these raw materials if you resolve to hang back competitive.

But we slightly need expert tools to struggle the exceedingly make (and uninteresting) marketing challenges hampering solar improvement.

I'd sympathy to see expert ad a skin condition on TV and telephone lines touting the benefits, costs, and devotion of solar energy.

I skepticism whether the non-discriminatory industrial solar installer may possibly get by without that approving of airtime. Maybe it's everything we need to analyze at the industry story - i.e. we store resources in a group to get the message out using the exceptionally media that big oil companies use.

As continuously, I'm forthright to ideas. Apportion your intellectual discontented underside or contact me orderly.

The Grid And New Energy

The Grid And New Energy
Putting high-class wind power on the grid; Intertwine farms have got to get a big interconnect in the energy come out zones in the Mojave and Colorado deserts.

Thing, July 23, 2013 (LA Get older)

"Intertwine turbines stay to be overshadowed by solar power projects, which get furthermost of the point up from the public and policymakers.
