During February 2014, staff from the IT Power UK and India offices presented at two UK-India offshore wind workshops in India. The workshops were organised and funded by the UK Science & Innovation Network India under the British High Commission. A delegation of senior researchers from leading UK universities such as Durham, Strathclyde and Loughborough travelled to India to present at the workshops and share their research on a variety of topics related to offshore wind. The first workshop was held on 3rd February in Ahmedabad in Gujarat. The state of Gujarat has been identified as having one of the greatest offshore wind potential in India and it is likely that much offshore wind capacity will be developed here in future years. The aptly located workshop, therefore, provided an ideal opportunity to meet with many of the local stakeholders that will play an important role in the development of the industry. During the workshop the audience were addressed by Mr. Shobhit Srivastava from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Mr. Rajendra Mistry from the Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL), each of whom provided updates on the development of the national and state level policies for offshore wind. Offshore wind delegation meeting in Ahmedabad The second of the two workshops was held at the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) on 7th February in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Similarly to Gujarat, Tamil Nadu has also been identified as a state that has great offshore wind potential. C-WET has been instrumental in supporting the development of India's onshore wind industry and has contributed important research on key topics. C-WET is expected to take a similar role during the course of the offshore wind industry development. Following on from the attendance at these workshops IT Power was also invited to take part in a UK business delegation visit to Kolkata. The delegation of 16 companies was led by Greg Barker, the UK's minister for UK-India development and also for Energy and Climate Change. During the visit IT Power had the opportunity to discuss the potential for tidal energy deployment in the state with the UK Minister and the Kolkata Minister of Finance. Tidal energy for the region has been proposed a number of times in the past but, as yet, a project has not been implemented. Offshore wind delegation meeting in Chennai
